Jacques Mesrine - Paris Match scans

Un peu de lecture avec ces superbes scans (pas les miens.. bravo à kikonk)

Un extrait de l'article post morterm (scan n°2) :

"Je ne suis pas un héros" a déclamé Mesrine dans son testament en forme de cassette. Remarquable lucidité. Il est vrai que notre époque n'est pas celle de la forte épopée et de l'héroïsme empanaché et ne peut faire s'avancer sur la scène - dans le crime ou la vertu - que des personnages qui épousent ses vagues, ses respirations et ses modes. Cette époque - dans le rôle d' "Ennemi public n°1" qu'il avait choisi d'interpréter - Mesrine l'avait remarquablement comprise. Il savait qu'il ne pouvait être "grand" qu'avec l'aide des médias servant de caisse de résonance à ses exploits et qu'il ne pouvait trouver d'écho dans une opinion fascinée qu'en dosant ses comportements criminels selon une alchimie aux effets "publicitaires" exactement efficaces. Si possible sans commettre la faute qui ferait s'écrouler l'édifice fragile auquel, comme à un château de cartes, il ajoutait au fil des mois une nouvelle "affaire", une nouvelle provocation, un forfait inédit de façon à ce que le spectateur s'écrie : "C'est incroyable!... Est-ce possible et jusqu'à quand ?".

Alors, le voici qui dessine le visage du hors-la-loi qu'il veut être. On le croit criminel ? C'est vrai. Il l'accorde et s'en vante même. Mais hors de ce criminel, il déboîte un "justicier" qui part en croisade contre les quartiers de haute sécurité, puis un "marginal" politique qui dénonce la société et ses pouvoir ; puis un Robin des Bois (des villes : nous sommes en 1979 !) qui vole volontiers le riche mais jamais le pauvre... Le tout à grand renfort de messages expédiés à la presse, d'apparitions et de disparitions fulgurantes, d'enregistrements sur cassettes. Le tout clamé sur le ton d'un défi lancé à l'abri d'une formidable force d'attaque et de dissuasion : un arsenal de fusils, de pistolets, de grenades... La bombe atomique, pour un peu. Ainsi allait l'irrésistible ascension de Mesrine. Lorsque ce fut l'erreur. "Celui qui se sert des médias périra par les médias" déclare l'évangile moderne. Et c'est la faute : Mesrine s'attaque à un journaliste. D'un coup, son image s'inverse.

Et c'est l'erreur : il ne tue pas ce journaliste grâce auquel Bauer, le complice, sera repéré et filé jusqu'à ce qu'il conduise les chasseurs à la tannière du loup. En France, cette tannière. A Paris et non à Rio, à Caracas ou à San Francisco. C'est que la gloire à ses exigences. Mesrine savait qu'il n'était le premier des princes du crime que dans son village et qu'à l'étranger, il n'eut été, en revanche, qu'un exilé radotant dans des bars, devant un public sceptique, une célébrité douteuse? C'est donc à Paris son village qu'il devait flamboyer et mourir. C'est ce que Mesrine a fait. C'est ce qu'il a même chanté, en une étrange et posthume oraison funèbre sur fond sonore. Et la boucle est bouclée. Tout s'achève en comédie musicale, mais le rideau se baisse sur une spectaculaire rafale de coups de feu. Comble de réalisme : ils sont vrais; le "héros" est vraiment mort.

They said it couldn't happen... But for 1500 passengers Bullet Train 109 became a nightmare journey that just couldn't be stopped!

=> Plot ? Criminals plant a bomb on a high-speed train. It will explode when the train slows down, unless a ransom is paid.
Simple.

Nothing much to say about Hachirou Aoyama unfortunately.. I guess he's another supa yet forgotten musician.. He's credited for working on 8 soundtracks, between 1973 and 1978.

Toshirô Mayuzumi -- japanese soundtracks guru

Now for some 60s japanese soundtracks.

Some of the work of Toshirô Mayuzumi (1929-1997), composer of around 100 soundtracks, from early 50s to early 80s.

Best known for the score of John Huston's 'Reflections in a Golden Eye' in 1967 and 'The Bible: In the Beginning' in 1966

Initially researching european avant-garde and exp electronic music, he soon turned (as a film composer) to a more classical way to compose.

Furthermore, he took the time to conceptualize around 50 orchestral, wind band pieces and opera works.

Quite impressive.

Toshiaki Tsushima - Army Of The Apes (Saru no gundan, 1974) (tv soundtrack)

Here's a MAJOR soundtrack by Toshiaki Tsushima, 70s 80s japanese soundtrack composer.

Best know for his work on Gekitotsu! Satsujin ken (The Street Fighter) in 1974 :

directed by Shigehiro Ozawa with Sonny Chiba.

And :
The Green Slime directed by Kinji Fukasaku. A great SF movie in which a crew of "i'm paying the rent right now, honey" american actors are terrorized by one-eyed tentacle monsters.

Today we'll focus on the Ape-mania spreading to the Far East in the mid-70s : we are nearly 2 years after the release of 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes' (june 72) and Tsuburaya Productions released their own Ape-based tv series. It ran 26 episodes, 25 minutes each.

You'll have to trust me on this one, the soundtrack is MUCH better than the series itself.. (not to be confused with the american one btw..)
=> It simply goes from a 'horns and marching bands' Morricone feel to a 'more-orchestrated & sound fx'd' Jerry Goldsmith one.. Very nicely produced. Songs sung in japanese.
